Getting Your Motivation Back After the Holidays
In January, after the holidays, both students and parents often experience a drop in motivation. The next vacation time seems far away, energy levels are low, and everyone is dragging themselves back to their daily routine unenthusiastically. However, after the festivities, we do have to get back to our “normal” life. Here is some advice to help your child get back on track.
- Progressively go back to rules and healthy daily habits
Returning to a sleeping routine by going to bed and waking up at regular set times is important. It is also essential to start eating healthy again after indulging during the holidays.
- Adopt a positive attitude and give yourself a few days to adapt
Stay upbeat and avoid negative comments. Cheer up children by reminding them that they will be reconnecting with their friends and resuming their extracurricular activities.
- Observe and listen
Some kids and teenagers might feel anxious about going back to school. Pay attention if they voice their fears, and don’t hesitate to ask questions that will encourage them to express their feelings. It will then be easier to be there for them and help them put things into perspective. Finally, for your kids’ own personal growth, guide them into coming up with their own solutions to what is stressing them out instead of imposing yours on them.
- Continue to have fun and plan out special activities with your child over the next few months
Time spent with your children is precious. To boost everyone’s spirits and help all of you wait for summer, why not plan fun, motivating activities and events in your calendar from January to June? March Break and summer vacation might still seem far away in January, but there is no law that says you can’t daydream about them.
In short, getting back to normal can be hard for both children and adults. The goal here is to teach children that, whether we want to or not, we sometimes have to deal with less than thrilling situations, but we can still find ways to make these situations fun.
